INTRODUCTION of 2012 SERIES "Lighthouses near & far" in Watercolour & Batik
I have added another painting to my series in the Painting Gallery. The name of this new painting "Thames River Mouth Lighthouse at Lake St Clair". Last January, my brother and his wife took us to visit this lighthouse of our childhood. There was a log jam and debris preventing the Thames River to flow into Lake St Clair. This lighthouse brought back childhood memories of weekend summer fishing at the dock with my family.
I am enjoying this new technique of mix media using watercolours, pen, wax on rice paper!
What's special about this series is that the paintings will combine my love of wax and watercolours.
This particular painting of the Kincardine Lighthouse was created using watercolours, wax, and
pen on rice paper.
Painting on rice paper have been around for over 2,000 years, and were established in China, Japan and Korea. This ancient method of painting requires considerable practice and patience. As I was learning, I recorded step-by-step instructions, so that I may one day teach a workshop to other artists. I am planning to paint a few more lighthouses to feel more confident in this technique.
I do love the final effect and transparency of the final painting!
Check out my Painting Gallery as I introduce more paintings in this series!
